Sunless Tanning Lotion

Maybe this year you are thinking you really want that dream tan, but you don’t want to spend it laying out in the sun or in a boring tanning bed.  Well don’t feel alone in this, as there are many men and women that are turning away from the harmful UV Rays from the sun and using sunless tanning to get a healthy yet dark tan.

When sunless tanning first became popular, people who used it had the risk of their skin turning to an artificial orange color.  Nowadays, things are much more advanced.  There is a DHA agent or active ingredient in these lotions that uses your skins amino acids to create brown melaninoids.  Your skin actually turns brown and only lasts five days.  This is a lot less of a commitment than either a real tan or even dying your hair.  This is also a great opportunity to find the product that will work best for you and your skin. Sunless Tanning lotions have improved over the years without doubt, but following some of the following steps will really help to get your started.

Prepare your skin for this by exfoliating.  Just like you would before a day at the beach using some tanning bronzers you are going to want to do this for sunless tanning.  The brown with sunless tanning only lasts until your skin cells actually slough off, so make sure to get all of the dead skin cells on your body off.

Make sure you know what to expect.  If you are a toe-head blonde, you are obviously not going to get as dark as your south of the border friend will.

Make sure to start from the top and work your way down and around your body.  Go in a circular motion to ensure that you don’t have any streaks in your sunless tan.  Work the lotion in everywhere, even the hard to reach places.

Be sure that you wash your hands every few minutes when you do this so you don’t have dark and stained hands when you are done tanning yourself.

Try your best to imitate a real tan.  So the areas that have the most sun exposure like the tops of your arms and nose and feet, will be more tan than the hard to reach places.

The best way to apply sunless tanning as would be done in a professional salon, is to use a brush.  Airbrush tanning is even done by finishing off with a brush or sponge-like brush.  This is best to have some hands-on finish to your tan.  You are essentially painting your body with a lotion that makes your skins amino acids mimic a tan.

How to Properly Apply Tanning Lotion

So you are ready to get that great tan they talk about on the bottle of Designer Sun Tan Lotion you purchased but you are not sure what is the best way to do this.  If you are tanning on the beach, in a bed, in the backyard or anywhere for that matter, having and applying tanning lotion is extremely important to your skins health.  Using tanning lotion is not always enough, you are going to need to do it correctly if you want to achieve the absolute best results.

First of all, you are want to choose the proper lotion for your skin.  This is different depending on how much time you plan to spend in the sun and what type of skin you have.  Look for lotions with high SPF or Sun Protection Factor if possible.  The higher the SPF the more protection you are going to have from the powerful UV Rays, just like it sounds.  It is always a good idea to also purchase after sun lotion and/or oil.  Aloe Vera is also a very good ingredient to look for in your after-sun lotion for it’s soothing factor to over-exposure.  After-sun lotion can also help with the peeling of your skin, which basically removes your tan completely!

If you plan to swim or go into a pool you are going to want to make sure that you get waterproof lotion so that you don’t have to reapply so much.  Also remember that water amplifies the UV Rays emitted by the sun by almost four hundred percent.

Before you apply the lotion it is best to wash your skin and exfoliate, just like if you were about to paint a car!  This will allow for a smooth spread of the lotion on your skin and for the lotion to sink into your pores to its full potential.

Begin by applying the lotion to a small area and then rub generously and evenly until all areas are covered.  Rub on the tanning lotion in a swirling manner rather line so you can maximize your coverage.  Don’t forget about the back of your arms and legs, feet and the other delicate areas of your body.  In fact these areas need the most attention as the skin is more sensitive and probably less used to the sun.

Reapplication during the entire day spent in the sun is extremely important.  If you don’t reapply you can pretty much plan on being sun burned, especially if it is a hot day.  Even if you have waterproof lotion you are going to want to reapply reguarly, as waterproof lotion is more like water-resistant.  The more delicate the skin is on your body, the more you are going to want to reapply to that area to protect it from the sun.

Finding Cheap Tanning Lotion

Tanning Lotion isn’t necessarily something that everyone budgets into their summer fun, or monthly indoor tanning regiment.  There are a wide variety of styles, scents and even options in tanning lotion which can pose a challenge for someone looking for the best, for less.  Some will leave you tingling, some will make you feel the burn and will contain bronzing agents to help you get tanner, faster.

There are lotions out there for every type of skin and every level of tan.  You are going to want to avoid purchasing this lotion from a tanning salon as there will be a huge mark-up.  The best deals are always found by shopping on the Internet!  There is no over-head for a salon or office so expect to get wholesale deals when you shop online.

In a salon a simple bottle of tanning lotion can cost you over twenty five dollars.  There is somewhere near and eighty percent markup in salons and retail stores.  Basically you are handing them money that you don’t need to, if you would do some research and learn to shop online.

There are different levels to tanning lotions ranging from level one, to level three.  There are different purposes in these lotions intended on getting tan fast, to getting through a leveled out tan and then of course for maintaining your tan once you have achieved your desired darkness.

Some of these tanning lotions are so intense to your skin that if you were to wear them outside in the sun and not in a controlled tanning bed environment that you can actually damage your skin and cause some skin care disasters.  Be sure to read and use these lotions properly in order to avoid such disasters.

Remember that this day and age there are a lot of options when you shop online and you don’t always know whether or not someone is going to be trustworthy when you buy from them.  It is wise to buy from online auction sites that implemented some sort of comment or feedback system on a particular buyer so that you can be sure not to be scammed.  This is extremely important if you are a new buyer on the Internet as you might not be able to notice some of the signs of obvious scam sites or people that are selling low-grade products at high prices.

It is important to remember that even if there are some obvious hurdles when shopping online, that the best deals are always found on the internet.  You can get high end products at low end prices, if you just know where to look.
